FOURTH PRICE HIKE IN THREE YEARS

FOURTH PRICE HIKE IN THREE YEARS IS FINAL STRAW FOR 2.9 MILLION LOYAL BRITISH GAS CUSTOMERS -

Nearly three million* (17 per cent) British Gas customers plan to switch to a cheaper supplier following the company’s fourth price hike in three years on 19th September. And a further 2 million (14 per cent)** have pledged to switch away from the energy giant if yet another price hike is announced according to research by independent switching comparison service uSwitch.com.

The news comes as the 14.2 per cent price increase for gas and electricity kicked in from 19th for British Gas’ 17.2 million customers who will see their annual energy bills rise by £104***.

Alan Tattersall, Director of Home Services at uSwitch.com commented: “Customers have finally run out of patience with British Gas. Our research reveals that they are sceptical about British Gas’ motives for this round of price hikes, with nearly one in four (23.7 per cent) believing that the main reason prices are rising is to make a profit or pay directors more.”

Tattersall concludes: “Anyone who is thinking of staying with British Gas should think again as they are paying on average £104 more a year for remaining loyal to the organisation.”

Since the price hike was announced ten days ago, over a quarter (29 per cent) of British Gas customers are unaware of the price hike, and just over half (52 per cent) know that it is the fourth time in three years that their energy bills have soared.
